The Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, has offered two students who graduated from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, automatic employment.

According to the institution, the two graduates who were the best students of the MLS department are Emmanuel Igwe and Faith Ademulegun.

The Pro-chancellor and founder of the university, Dr Bode Ayorinde, made the announcement, during the 9th induction /oath-taking ceremony of 65 medical laboratory scientists on campus of the institution.

Ayorinde said the duo, who bagged first class honours, would be employed as graduate assistants in the university.

“The university will continue to encourage students who have carved an academic niche for themselves and we will also continue to provide the necessary infrastructure and equipment for our programmes,” he said.

The pro-chancellor also disclosed that a sum of N100m had been expended recently on nine laboratories for a medical laboratory science programme in the institution, admonishing the other students to let integrity be their watchword as they enter the labour market.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria Dr. Tosan Erhabor, said the council would not relent towards ensuring quality service delivery in the health laboratory system in the country.

He noted that this would go a long way in discouraging medical tourism to other foreign countries.

“We must find home-grown solutions to our needs if we are to change the narrative of poor health indices. All hands must be on deck and health professions, whatever their specialty, must learn to work together in the interest of the service users, eschewing bickering, rancour or unhealthy rivalry,” Erhabor added.
